Set the power supply voltage with no load
If the battery is so depleted that voltage at the battery only comes up a few decimal points at the start of charging...do be it !
It will be accepting the max the power supply can provide
The voltage will rise at the battery as the amps taper
30 amps at 11.7 or 12.2 Is better than power supply over load
Remember it worked fine until you deliberately over loaded it by forcing it to 538 watts
You can always put a dc circuit breaker in the output, maybe one of those automotive self resetting thermal breakers
So any sudden load surge, circuit short etc..
Will trip the breaker and protect the power supply, mega watt, cheapo watt, whatever
