My thought is this...
Ergonomics...
A big ugly dial and my clumsy fingers go good together. Biasing each leg (PSU) with precision resistors to try and achieve working load sharing will probably work. Whether or not stability will cause headaches as the PSU's age is anyone's guess.
But I am going to resolve the issue with brute force inherent protection. 1,009 watts of PSU potential. I may even go 1,400 watts. With inrush this is pushing the envelope on AC power circuit capabilities.
The Cheapowatt is devoid of foldback or hiccup protection. So the answer for me is a HELL'S ANGELS engineering approach. I am after instant gratification in the absorbsion voltage limit category anyway, translated: Shortest recharging time needed. The battery is AGM, which means it wants to eat with a fork in each hand anyway.
The PWM control method you suggest has a lot of merit. It's the issue of clumsy fingers hand-eye coordination that is setting the rules and plans in my case.
