i too have been twiddling with a voltage pot; in my case on my modified pm4b-75; and i too have noticed a quick drop in amperage at start-up... throughout the soc range... perhaps this is just the norm for units with no soft-start capability?
and i've been using the pm for half-azzing a top/eq charge on my two 215ah banks. it maxes out at 16.47v boost and 15.42v abs. so a little low for a true eq, but good enough 'til i can do a real eq with the psu i ordered.
i have a question though, regarding amps during top/eq'ing, and not sure if there's a thread dedicated to such? i series-wired the two batts which have one bad cell each, and hit them with 15.42v for 5 hours one day, then 3 hours the next day.
??? i have noticed the amps rising from ~5a to ~9.5a after a few hours of steady 15.42v charging. is this normal? and the resting battery voltage dropped from 12.81v (pre-15.42v charges) to 12.72v afterwards... even though the sg readings went up and helped eq the two bad cells a little? (after doing another top charge with my nautilus 15amper at 14.95v, to within .01v drop, the resting voltage returned to 12.81).
