Exterior Light / Motion Detector swap out

I Purchased a Smart Light 1000 which is an exterior light / motion detector. The installation says to disconnect the battery before replacing the existing 12 volt light.

My question is, do I really have to disconnect the battery or can I just handle one lead at a time similar to a plug swapout for a 110 outlet?

Thanks,

  • Well you will not be electrocuted. Short to ground will open the fuse.
But honestly having the switch in the off position is fine.
  • That depends on you. But if you've done it on AC, then no worries. I always get beat up wiring things hot, but it adds to the excitement..
  • Just don't make any big sparkys or you'll be looking for a fuse-at least.
