Pat, I looked at all the replacement switch pix I could find and came up with the above. With that D-shaped shaft, no threaded hole in the end, and you NOT seeing a set screw in the side of the knob...
I'm sure it pulls off. If there's room, put the end of a teaspoon between knob and fan surface and pry a little while you wiggle and tug on the knob. It'll come off.
