It is not "a few amps" more, but 10-20% AH a day more. There can be many different energy consumption patterns, if you can stay within 40 AH a day, then even few AH matters, and generator is collecting dust peacefully. This means a lot of energy conservation, no 120V gadgets.
With systems under 200-250W, however, I agree, there is no point - usually - in paying more for MPPT. Though, one 200W 24V panel is - usually - cheaper than 2*100W, so the total cost of system doesn't increase much.
