In all my years only ONCE did a propane fill station fill by weight. All the rest of the time it is by the bleed valve. Never have had someone just use the OPD valve.
yes, weight is a very good way to fill, but when filled by weight they still used the bleed valve to make sure it wasn't overfilled.
Now, the weight fill certainly works IF what you are filling with is 100% Propane, But in many parts of the country, what you get is "LPG" liquified petroleum gas, which can be a mixture of propane, isobutane butane and other hydrocarbons.
I have no clue what the density of these combinations are and how they compare to 100 percent propane and how fill by weight is affected.
