Filter for Converter

I have a 2003 Magnetec 6345 converter inour RV. I measured around 6 volts of AC voltage riding on the 12.8 DC voltage in the trailer. Is there a cheap, easy way to add filter caps to this converter, or would it be better to just replace it all together?
  • It probably is pulsed DC and not AC. Impossible to tell the difference with most meters.

But the overwhelming opinion is that the Magnetec should be changed out for a 3 stage (at least).
  • Please clarify if you are talking about something else besides the design of the 6300 where it has the split DC output, part of which needs the battery connected to act as the filter for DC going to sensitive items like the monitor panel.

That 6300 filtering by the battery is normal so not a problem. (The 7300 is the newer technology that means converters no longer need a battery to filter their DC)

If it is a different filtering issue from that normal 6300 one, somebody else will have to help here.
  • I'd suggest to replace it all-together. Most of those Magnetek converters were a single stage operation so will boil out a battery if not watched closely.

Also, if you have 6VAC riding on the DC output, chances are that the converter is now failing or will fairly soon.
