Funny you should ask this. I was trying all kinds of solutions myself. A wicked storm at Myrtle Beach solved the problem. I left the flag up during the storm and the wind bent the pole. My boys and I managed to unbend it but not perfectly. It's now a bear to open and close, but it sure does stay up there without sliding down.
