Fresh water tank leak

Very common problem, especially with jayco and Starcraft models. Fortunately also very easy to fix. Overflow tubes underneath begin leaking long before tank is full and continue to do so until up to 1/3 tank is drained. Often happens in transit...you fill up at home, arrive for a boondocks, only to find you lost a bunch of water. Valves need to be put on those overflow tubes. Have the valves open when filling, but as soon as your tank registers 100 percent full, close the valves. Solves the problem. Good luck. Lots of us found this goofy situation and have fixed it quite simply.

Those tubes are vents. If your tank is filled by using an attached garden hose, you will do damage if the added valves are closed. Likewise, using water with the vents closed will collapse the tank. Know how your system works before following the advice of others.

My tank is under the dinette seat, short 10" hose runs out to the side of the camper (gravity fill). Remove hose clamp on tank and vent hose, remove three screws and pull it off the side of the camper. Pull all hoses out with it, and switch them out on a new one is a easy. Slide new one in, caulk, three screws, and tighten two hoses back onto the FW tank. I'm off tomorrow and will visit the dealership for the part and caulk.

I discovered mine was leaking today whenever the water overfills and pours out back at you. It was the actual fitting. It spins freely when tightening the cap (shot), time for new one and repairing it on a foam walled camper. Uggh!

Most of the rv dealers her sell 2 sizes and my fittings were funnel shaped to accept either one.

Well here is a follow up of the leak, it was a cracked fill hose. It was a real job to get to it and get it out. Then our local camping World and other RV stores did not have the hose needed. Finally bought a hose from Home Depot that should be okay. Did not drop the tank but the job was tough because of such a tight area to work. Camping World could have ordered for me but I would have to pay around $25.00 for 10 feet when I only needed 3' 9".

Thanks for the comment...I had not considered cutting just a portion of the liner. I have worked underneath when I had a galley tank leak, did not like it.

i replaced my fill hose and it was a pain. I cut away the liner under the tank enough to get to the clamp & fitting. Did not have to drop the tank. That would really be a pain.

My problem is with the fill hose being disconnected partially or having a break in it. I cannot see where the water is coming from. I did put a smaller hose inside the filler hose and put water in it. There were no leaks, I may just live with that rather pull the bottom out and or drop the tank.

My gravity fill line goes into the side at the top of the freshwater tank. My buddy has his leaking at that fitting. Would leak while filling and driving down road with a full tank. Somehow dealership was able to get to the location and seal. Good luck.
