Fridge, Hit and Miss on Propane

Hello,
I have a 2008 Class C Motor-home and the refrigerator works great on electric. It also works on gas, but I have to turn it off and on 5-10+ times to get it to turn on, and then when it has reached the right temperature and turns off then when it tries to turn back on it usually won't (I will have to go turn it off and on 5+ times to get it to work again).
I have tried cleaning it based on the computer air spray video on youtube and that did not help at all. Anyone know what might be wrong with it or have any suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanks!

  • I pulled my burner out and scraped the carbon out of the burner slots with a dental tool. Been good ever since. That was a half a dozen years ago.
  • I had a similar problem with my fridge not being reliable when on propane.

I cleaned out a bunch of tiny twigs, leaves and other debris that had accumulated around the burner area with a vacuum cleaner. I vacuumed as much stuff as I could and then I reversed the vacuum cleaner hose so I was blowing air (I could have used my leaf blower for that part I guess).

Anyway since I did my vacuuming and "leaf blowing" around the burner area about 4 months ago the fridge has been 100% reliable.

  • Canned spray air won't correct problem.
You need to remove burner....clean it and orifice, clean flue, make sure flue baffle is correctly positioned, clean spark electrode/check ceramic for cracks, and adjust spark gap.......also check main flame

Services manuals are easily available on-line..just search for your Brand/Model.
  • Need to use a brush to clean the burner tube and tower. I use a long brush that I can reach into the burner and tower with. I then vacuum all the loose stuff out. Seems like I need to do it every year.

Make sure you turn it off first.
