My longest time period driving without being hooked up and running the fridge is 8 ~ 9 hours. I get the fridge nice and cold a day before a trip, have the food nice and cold (freezer stuff frozen) in the fridge the night before I leave. In the morning I unplug and travel. Even after an eight hour trip everything is still cold/frozen when I get to my destination. I've done this from NY to VA, from VA to GA, from GA to FL and back again without a problem.
