"freezer can be cold with a blown cooling unit." ????
That's what you would call Dometic Magic. :B
It's true. A BAD cooling unit(not a leaker) will freeze the freezer compartment. The blockage is after the freezer coil. BUT, the temp is NOT at 0 to 10 degrees. It can be anywhere from 31 degrees down to 0 degrees. COMMON scam by people selling their RV. They show the buyer that the Freezer is very COLD, but it is not to spec and after they buy, they find out the refer cooling unit is bad and the CU needs replaced. Doug
If the blockage is after the "freezer coil" how does the ammonia gravity feed back to the boiler? Curious minds would like to know.
A Blockage is not a full restriction. It stops the normal flow of ammonia to cool the lower section. The freezer section is before the blockage and will usually get pretty cold. Cold enough that a novice would not realize that it is not cold to spec. Doug
