That's what I would do. I would drill a hole through a piece of steel and JB Weld a nut onto it. Then after that is dried JB Weld the strip onto the broken area. Make sure you also get some epoxy in that crack in the corner. Also if you take the screw to Home Depot or Lowes they have a display in the nut and bolt aisle where you find the correct hole that the bot will screw into and it tells you the size and pitch of the nut to buy.
