Furnace running requires hookup or engine running?

I’ve rented a 2012 sprinter airstream, class b, to run the furnance (lpg) I have to have van engine running, be hooked up to power, or generating running. This seems odd to me. It’s propane seems like...

An extra blanket requires no battery power. What was the low temperature last night? Remember the Airstream is an RV, not a stick and brick house.
