Furnace running requires hookup or engine running?

I’ve rented a 2012 sprinter airstream, class b, to run the furnance (lpg) I have to have van engine running, be hooked up to power, or generating running. This seems odd to me. It’s propane seems like...

It takes some juice to turn on your furnace, then more to run the blower. You can run your furnace when you wake up in the morning to take the chill off when boondocking. Running it all night even at a low temperature is likely to take your batteries to zero.
