Furnace running requires hookup or engine running?

The furnace will run from just the battery. It will pretty much drain a single battery with one night of use so you will need to run the engine or generator in the morning.
I agree that your battery is either at the end of it's life and in need of immediate replacement or you have a battery disconnect switch in the off position preventing the battery from providing power.
