gas additives

I know there is a lot of talk about sta-bil and sea foam, but has anyone used Lucas gas treatment in their vehicles or gen sets. talked to my DW's cousin and he said he got quite an increase in gas mileage by using it in his SUV driving to AZ this year.
  • I believe there is an added benefit to the use of this product albeit, sometimes difficult to measure with so many variables involved. I will have to say, this past summer I did experience the highest mpg average that I've ever gotten on my truck using this fuel additive. I was unloaded, driving 55-60 & averaged 19. Normally & without the additive that would have been closer to 16-17 at best. I purchased one 5.25oz bottle & 32oz. bottle. After using the smaller bottle the first time, I simply refill it from the larger one as needed.

100% of the time at home & around town I fuel at Chevron stations with Techron + the Lucas. On trips, I normally fuel at any convenient truck stop, so I use the Lucas then.

I also use it in my generator & ATV.

I have never seen reviews as good as these on any similar type product.

    HERE
  • Let's not forget yet another additive as in Techron
I use the full synthetic stuff in many of our engines including my outboards
Understand it is similar to what Yamaha sells as "Ring Free"
  • It could be the added detergents in the Lucas fuel treatment. Over the last few years the EPA as reduced the required amount of detergents in gasoline by 50%. I noticed last year one of our cars was not getting the MPG it did previously. It also didn't idle as smoothly. After adding a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and running that tank of gas through, the average MPG started climbing up. The idle also smoothed out. Now I it's hard to tell if the engine is even running.

There are 'Top Tier' fuels that have at least double the EPA required amount of detergent. If you use gasbuddy to check fuel prices you see the stations that are rated 'Top Tier'. Mobile, BP, Costco and Shell are some Top Tier fuels.

I don't know if it's necessary to add detergent to each tank but depending on the type of fuel you use it wouldn't hurt to through some in every now and then.
  • I usee it every fillup in our Kia van and in the MH. As for MPG increase I see .5 in the MH and maybe 1 in the van. However, they both run so much better on this rotten ethenol gasoline that the extra cost makes it worth while for me. I use Marine Sta-bil in the MH, I put it in before I park it so it has time to mix in the fuel tank and get to the carb.
  • I've used it in old gas for mower etc. Seems to work well. Doubt you'll see mpg increase.
