Generac Generator, no power after running a few minutes

The small pop is probably the thermal breaker opening up.
It sounds like you have an over amperage condition in the wires to the rotor.
This could be caused by a bad rotor or a bad stator.
Recommend more static trouble shooting before you burn up the voltage regulator.
The generac service manual covers rotor and stator checking very well.
