Generac Q55-G retrofit
I was given a Generac Q55-G generator that was pulled from a 99. Since mine is an 85 with a Kohler 2.5kw that needs a new ignition set.
The Q55 was apparently dying pretty quickly - I think it's likely failed switches based on some forum posts I found.
So, I'm going to go through the generac and bring it back to life. Once that's done I plan to refit my RV for the newer genset.
A quick look at the wiring wasn't impressive. The starter contactor has been replaced by a generic one and some of the leads have been hacked on a bit. I'm going to clean up the wiring, replace the spark plugs, fuel filter, change the oil and see where I am.
Any suggestions to improve my chances of success? I don't know how long it sat, so I may have to break out some seafoam for the carb at a minimum.
