Generator carb adjustment for elevation

I have tried the search feature and drew a blank. I think I have read about having to adjust the carburetor when you go to higher elevations. I am going to elevations of 7400 ft in Wyoming in a 2006 Winnebago Voyage gas MH with an Onan 75 kw generator. Do I need to learn about changing anything?

  • I agree that it's probably something that you would want to consider if you were staying at the higher elevations, but for a few nights, why bother with it. That old adage "If it ain't broke..." comes to mind:)
If you find that the genset isn't working as you expect it to, it may make sense, but I'd wait and see.

  • From my Onan manual; "For best fuel economy and genset operation set the carburetor altitude adjust knob."
To me, that reads that it's not required, but may be beneficial to make an adjustment. It's a lever that slides left/right, and has altitude markings on it; 0, 5000, 10000. We never ran the generator very much while at high altitude, but I didn't bother to adjust it.
