Besides, running a genny all day doesn't mean you're making or using a lot of power. Depends on the loads and battery SOC.
In any event, adequately sized solar (including adequate battery bank) makes sense, unless your RV affair is meant to be a short lasting one.
Check your math. He said he saved $12,000 in fuel in 120 days.
120 days x $10 = $1,200
However
120 days x $100 = $12,000
With that said, I have nothing against solar. I have 42 panels in my house.
When I go away to a football game forcthe weekend it’s a different experience. We don’t sit around the campfire and sing kumbaya. We have lights, TV, karaoke, etc. we use a lot of power. At night we run the ac. Did I need to run for 42 hours straight? Probably not but it was easier to set it up and let it run than be constantly starting and stopping.
