It's a plot Chum Lee. To make parts exclusive and bar outside vendors from manufacturing alternatives. Not excessively similar to Dinosaur vs absorbsion refrigeration. To build a limited market replacement for Onan idiocy would be madness.
Study a cheaper Woodward hydraulic governor versus an Onan made in Africa grade governor. The Onan is utter garbage. Even TECUMSEH builds a better sheet metal and spring governor. And Tecumseh is the bottom of the barrel.
Onan make available technicians to all US Armed Forces Onan installations. None of these generators are less than six figure many of them are seven figure purchases. Outbid everyone else then jam-it-in-to-the-hilt-and twist-it-until-it breaks-off when it comes to maintenance and repair parts. Like new car dealership economics -- It ain't the car stupid! It's the back room parts and repairs. Like blood sugar meters. Sold at cost then dessert with whipped cream profits from the sale of test strips.
I do not have the time nor the money to deal with "Stupid". And "Stupid" is not fixable. The low profit sale of generators to the RV OEM is a guarantee that killer profit repair parts and service is is the wings. The flagship hood ornament of Onan.
A hundred and twenty eight dollars (1988) for a inductive coil that similar ones cost six dollars on eBay. Unusable interchange. And these dogturd gensets broke more often than less expensive more reliable ones.
Stamford Newage large gensets follow the ONAN mindset. Unique construction. KY Jelly mandatory when dealing with parts and service.
Had YANMAR been around when I built my genset I would have preferred one over the KUBOTA. But it wasn't. KATO is still the Lifeline/Rolls & Surrette of generators. But I chose the preciseness and solid titanium durability of the Delo H-10 regulator. REPAIRABLE discrete circuit board. I have a drawerfull of vacuum sealed components waiting just in case. I did replace KATO's eight field rectifiers with 150 amp 1675 volt stud rectifiers.
Getting back to fan motors. I will install FOUR brushless double ball bearing fans and an Electro Switch in place of the junky original. Or maybe a PWM variable speed with temp cutoff. When the Endless Breeze case goes to UV heaven there are lots of box fan cases to use.
