I thought I would add a note here that I didn't get in my original post.
Yes, it cost a lot of money to repair my generator, $2304.11 to be exact, much of which was replacement of parts that should have been replaced as part of a full tune up.
The part failure was the bottom bearing on the generator rotor, I do not believe this was due to negligence, sometimes things just happen.
I do not feel that Mr. Patton did a lousy job, it is my assumption that he did fail to check the alignment of the brushes and the slip rings when he replaced them. I do know that he has absolutely no interest in talking to customers and keeping them up to date on the status of repairs.
My problem was and is with Cummins/Onan and their QC. Five sets of stator, rotor, end bell and brushes delivered to an authorized repair shop or to anyone, that when assembled have the brushes running to some degree on the phenolic the slip rings are mounted on and partly on the slip ring. The generator will not run long under that condition. Delivering at least three set of the above parts packed so poorly that they are tossed together hard enough to damage them and render them unusable. Over $4000 dollars in parts that have to be junked due to damage and not meeting specs.
Those are the big things that took 7 months for repairs.
I cannot, however, recommend Advanced Generator Service in Azusa CA because the owner doesn't communicate with his customers.
