Generator not charging coach battery
2002 Newmar M/A DP 400 isl leece neville alternator or generator won't charge batteries. Alternator not putting out 12 volts. Should my onan generator charge my batteries?

On a 2002 Newmar MADP, your APU (genset) does NOT charge anything. It has no charger. What it does on your model is this--- Once the Genset powers the motorhome, you have an Inverter/Charger and THAT charges the coach batteries. Your system also has an Intellitec Bi charger system. Once the Coach voltage comes up and over 13.1 volts, the charge relay closes and this supplies charging to the chassis batteries. The Chassis engine Alternator supplies charge voltage DIRECT to the chassis batteries. Not thru any other appliance. So, if the chassis Alternator is not charging, you need to find out why. The chassis Alternator if functioning WILL charge the coach batteries thru that Intellitec bi charger relay system. Doug
