Generator Placement questions

If you are over-nighting in a paking lot, stay up late with the AC cranked to the max. When you go to bed, shut down the generator and store it INSIDE !

It's going to be tough staying cool in those conditions, depending on what is cool to you. Parking lots radiate heat all night. Flying J would be better for running a gen all night, due to all the trucks presumably idling. I can't imagine getting a good night's sleep there, but to each his or her own.

Depending on where you will be going, consider elevation.
Grand Canyon south rim for example is not nearly as hot in July at it's 6600 foot elevation, as some other areas which are lower.
Those of us on the east coast don't remember this as much as many of the western locals. Planning your boondocking spots for higher elevations can greatly help in keeping you comfortable.

It could be 100 degrees in Utah in july, but the nights cool down a little bit. I have spent the night in the dry heat with just the max air vent running and a 12 volt fan.

Biggest issue is the possibility of theft. You need to make sure (even when the generator is running) that it is secured. I've read stories where RV'ers have had their portable generator stolen while it was running. We keep ours in the back of the truck with a large logging chain with padlock and one inch cable lock to secure it to the 5th wheel hitch.

Before the generator we found that we could sleep comfortably in up to 100 degree heat with one or two fans blowing on us. We found a Ryobi battery operated fan that lasts about 8 hours on a single charge. Plus using our fantastic fan vents to help move air. We have 4 12v Marine batteries to power the fantastic vents all night. Front one is sent to suck in air and rear vent is sent to exhaust air.

Any reason not to search out a campground for overnight between destinations?
