It's not considered proper etiquette to use a generator, open your slides or awning or use you BBQ and lawn chairs while over-nighting at Walmarts, truck stops and rest areas. And don't use the storm drains to empty your tanks either! IF you get away with it, you're only ruining it for the next poor sap wanting a few hours of rest. Many places that used to allow over-nighting no longer allowing it because of the objectionable behavior of a few miscreants.
And besides, at an RV park, the kids can run and play - maybe get a shower and clean up while you're there.
I agree a CG is better if you can make it work within your schedule.
However there times when Wal Mart is the best way.
While I agree a loud contractor genset is generally unacceptable.
A quieter inverter style or built in genset does not break any etiquette rules.
I have done CG overnights and Wal Mart/Cracker Barrel over nights.
There is a time and lace to use both methods.
