generator problems

Have a generator that runs for a little and when I start to travel it shuts off. When I arrive at destination it starts but runs for 2 min and shuts off again and continues to do this. Have had it to local guy and Cummins and the say everything is good. ANY IDEAS 2000 32 ft Four Winds V10 Ford ONAN MICROQUITE MODEL # 4KY FA26100J S/N J990001814

  • I had the same issue with my generator and it turned out to be the fuel pump. No further issues since it was replaced. Not sure why it could pull fuel for a short time then quit. Good luck.
  • Check the SAFETY SHUTDOWN SENSORS THEMSELVES as well as the idiot board. Some manufacturers do a mighty poor job fitting the generator fuel pickup into the main gas tank. The pickup is supposed to have a sock on it. Some fuel line hoses will "lose a wrap liner" which is inside and it plugs the suction side of the fuel pump.

    Just some thoughts...
  • Mine runs a lot better if I put an additive in the fuel tank to counteract the ethanol. It really DOES make a difference.
  • New Carb, new filter and comp board among many others. Thanks man any help is appreciated! At my wits end

    fuel filter

I agree, a dirty fuel filter can cause many problems.
However, if the OP had it to a local person AND Cummins, you would think one of them would have checked/changed the fuel filter. :?
  • Don't give the experts or anyone else much to go on, now do ya? Here's a hint: You need to post the full model and serial number, including the spec letter if it's an Onan. Otherwise, I doubt the pros here are going to bother with your question.
