Generator won't turnover from inside motorhome

I have a 1998 Winnebago with a 4000 watt Onan generator. Generator won't turnover from inside motor home. Starts fine using switch on the generator. Once started, the inside off switch works fine. An...

That is not always the case. My RV has the juice to operate the generator and its switches from the house batteries. That way, a single battery going dead does not disable both the vehicle engine and the generator.
