To the OP. You have heard from the "Mine is almost silent" crowd. There are some that are quieter than others. No argument there except from the "Mine is quieter than yours folks".
If you want the most bang for the buck, look at the Chinese clone 3500/4000 watt open frame generators. Not something to run in a crowded quiet campground. If that is the type of camping you do, get ready to hear generators running all day and all night. If you want power in a noisy environment or for home backup, the $300 open frame models will perform as well as the $1,000 units. I do not camp where a generator is going to be used all day and I can live with a couple of hours a day hearing a modern open frame generator (Not a contractor generator). You can't hear mine or a Honda in a Walmart parking lot on a busy Saturday night, like tonight.
