Not good. Curious - why is that a residential type recept. and not an SCD RV type? Someone changed it? The melted wire can't have been terminated properly.
Doesn't matter if it is in a box. The one pictured appears to be in a box.

When I added a new (non-GFCI) 120V socket, I just used the standard household variety from Lowes.
A mobile home/RV receptacle does not require an electrical box. A typical residential/commercial receptacle must be in an electrical box.
