Not good. Curious - why is that a residential type recept. and not an SCD RV type? Someone changed it? The melted wire can't have been terminated properly.
Are there SCD GFCI's made? I don't think I've come across them--only plain receptacles.

FWIW, when I rewired my restoration project, every device location had a
Shallow 8 cu in. box (I actually used new-work boxes) installed. If users have a failed device, these boxes are easy to install and then you can use conventional non-SCD devices.
