I don't have a multimeter to test, but will get one tonight :) The battery was new at the end of last season. And it always had 4 lights after charged. And the 4 lights always came on when plugged in. Now, I get 3 lights when plugged in and after being plugged in for a while as soon as I unplug it drops to 1 light.
Sounds like I need a meter.
Thanks again. Last year was our first time at this and there is so much to learn....
Walmart carry these meters? Which kind do you guys recommend? Not even sure what it weould be called...besides multimeter
TThe four light monitor is a coarse voltmeter. A fully charged battery is at 12.7v then is less as it is discharged. (You need to recharge when it gets to two lights.)
The converter makes 13.6v which is more than a full battery at 12.7, and as soon as you turn on the converter you should get the monitor showing the same as a full battery--four lights---even if you disconnect the battery or the battery is connected but still only half full. The four lights do not indicate a full battery except when you unplug shore power, and the batteries are full.
Ok, so you just can't be getting three lights when plugged in and the converter is working. Only possibility is if the converter is working and doing its 13.6v but you have some huge "12v" draw in the rig that is pulling "system voltage" down into the 12.x volt range so you only get three lights same as if on a battery not quite full.
Or else the converter is only doing 12.x volts--which is not likely--they either work or they don't.
