gray tank cable

The cable is hard to pull and push in. Lately it will not close the valve to the gray water holding tank and the water comes out of the tank. I have the bottom out and can close it all the way when I give it a little help.

  • Faithful,

Go find your friend with a dirt bike and ask him if you can borrow his cable lube set. (I bet he has at least one.) These things are great, you can force lube all the way into the cable.

If that doesn't work, its the valve that needs cleaning or repair.

  • After you drain the tank and the valve is all the way put a long handled bottle brush in there and run it around the inside opening. Sometimes stuff can get stuck around that thin line where the valve slides. Depends on all what you 'allow' to be flushed down your gray tank. Spraying the pull valve with silicone helps also.

But, every one of mine that started having that problem ultimately needed to have the valve gate replaced. IMHO it seems that's the first symptom before it breaks.
Valve gates are Cheap and easy to replace.
  • When was the last time you lubricated the cable. Its another one of those often overlooked maintenance items.
Use graphite, silicone, WD-40, or light machine oil.
While you have the bottom out its a good time to clean and lube the waste gate also.
