grounding new 12v branch circuit
My 12v dist. panel has a fused branch circuit that is not used. I would like to add a few small lights from that lead. My question is, what is the proper, safe way to ground it?. ...Hot wire to the sw...

There is a difference between "what will work" and what "complies with codes". As I recall, only external lighting items (running lights, brake lights, etc) can use the frame as the return to ground path. Coach body items must have a ground wire that returns to the source.
This is all spelled out in the Nationl Electrical Code Article 551. At least that's where it was a few years ago.
