Happijac bed lift.

New to this RV.Net
I have a 2006 playmor toyhauler with a happijac bed lift.
It stopped working for no apparent reason.
I thought it was the up down switch. Its not.
I thought it was the relay board. Its not.
I disconnected the incoming battery wires from relay board, and connected my dewalt 18 volt battery to the relay board and everything works great.
So...the power source for the relay board is not hot.
How can I trace these battery wires and find out why the power input to the relay board isnt hot?
Its a heave gauge black wire and a heavy gauge yellow wire that disappear into the wall going upwards. Short of tearing wall paneling off the wall, I cant figure out where these wires go and why they are no longer hot.
  • I have a feeling that what Doug said is right, but all day I couldn't locate any kind of sign of a switch or fuse anywhere. This has me puzzled.
I have done some work recently with 110 outlets but just simple stuff in the 110 service panel only. If I yank on the wires I can hear them up by the ceiling behind the wall. From this point forward the upper cabinets are installed. The only heavy gauge black and yellow wires that come into the service panel area are not related to the happijac toggle which leaves me to believe they spliced the wires to a smaller wire and so far I cannot figure out which ones they are. What Doug says makes sense, but I'm convinced that something got buried, ....since the happijac relay board has a 15 amp self resetting fuse, someone decided it was ok to bury a common fuse in the wall somewhere behind the cabinets. This is starting to consume all my thoughts. I spent the whole day cleaning my camper and thinking about it and rushing around everytime I thought I had a good idea about what might be happening. I'll probably dream about it tonight. I have not replaced the battery lately.
Monday I will contact Play-mor. Thanks for the info.

    Found this:

    Play-Mor Trailers, Inc.

    3231 Hwy 63 South
    P.O. Box 128
    Westphalia, MO 65085
    PH: (573) 455-2387
    info@goplaymor.com

Just call or email them. Try to get a wiring diagram. Bu ask them if/where there's a switch, fuse, etc, etc.

Before I forget... Any recent work, like replacing the battery?

The Owner's packat, or the manufacture, or a forum, ideally for your brand, should be able to tell you about a switch and/or fuse.

RV builders do some ugly work, agreed. The convention, if there is one, is this: An access cover that's bradded/stapled in place shouldn't have anything behind it that you need. A cover attached with screws, velcro, or clips...might.

From what Doug says, I'm thinking there in fact IS a safeguard switch and somebody flipped it. Nothing happened, so they left it, and the flip happened to be to OFF.

Otherwise, look around your battery area. Maybe the Black and Yellow originate there. Otherwise, around your Fuse Panel.
  • The trouble shooting guide that is with the Happijac owners manual talks about checking the in-line fuse first....
So I'm convinced there is a fuse somewhere but afraid its buried in the wall with no easy access.
  • I changed my mind about the new line and the conduit. I"m not in such a hurry that I have to do something so permanent. I can get by on the dewalt battery for awhile until I find out what the HELL is the case with this power supply.
I'll keep searching the camper and looking for the path of this un-hot power supply. Not aware of any switches that may be involved but I will keep looking. I suspect its an in-line fuse in a j-box buried behind the cabinets.
  • Most of the Happijac's I have delt with have a SEPERATE power switch, to prevent operation. AND, this switch does NOT have to be located in the tow hauler area by the regular toggle switch. In Jayco's it is located at the main switch panel by the front main entry door. I would check ALL the switches you can find. Doug
  • I'm stumped over this. I checked all fuses in the panel, and even checked the two 30 amp fuses at power inverter.
All I can think of now is that there are in-line fuses in a j-box buried in the wall somewhere.
Everything else in the camper works, 12 volt and 110.
I put the relay board and switch all back together and left two wires dangling out of the wall that are attached to the relay board, and when I want to raise or lower bed I attach those two dangling wires to my Dewalt 18 volt battery and the bed raises and lowers just like it's supposed to.
I might end up running new power supply wire down the wall and to the fuse panel and encase the new wires in some automotive flexible conduit.
I could install a 12 volt cigarette lighter style power supply along that new wire as the camper does not have one of these type power supplies already.
Or maybe I use 1/2 inch rigid conduit and paint it black to make it look better.
  • The power wires have to terminate somewhere, either in a junction box, at the fuse distribution panel, or at the battery. They should also be fused so at the distribution panel would be my guess.
