If it makes you feel a little better, go to Northern tool, theyre selling what appears to be the same genny under their powerhorse name, in a blue cabinet for $1299
These things arent hondas, but about 20 years ago Japan cut a lot of deals with Taiwan and mainland China. Authorized clones of Honda small engines are common and Yamaha MC and scooter engines are as well.
Chinese quality does not match Japan, but these genny's are powered by the 212 Honda clone, their old 6.5hp, Its a proven engine, Farmers nationwide are using tools powered by these for pumps and are running the things for years 24/7.
These engines have also become extremely popular for go carts and minibikes and are getting heavy rough use.
Ive got a scooter which is a Yamaha Zuma clone and it has been running great, Yammy would cost 3200 this one was 900, I have friends who have had theirs for 5 years and have upwards of 10,000 miles on them.
The main thing anyone using any of these for any time will tell you,,,,,,
Fill it with oil, run it for a half hour, and change the oil. Do that when you get them and they seem to do well,
Dont and you can start complaining about your Chinese junk in a year or so.
