My two cents:
Since my 3000 watt Yamaha generator is definitely a goner (lesson learned -- watch who you loan stuff to), I have a 4000 Champion open-framed one I bought as a stopgap. It starts and runs the A/C no problem... but it is loud.
The HF is tempting. With a two year warranty, it either is going to fail and be replaced, or it will last past the warranty. Either way, it is decent. To boot, it has an electric start.
The other generator that costs about a C-note more is the Champion 3100 that is a manual start. Two C-notes, and I have a Champion model with electric start, and $300 more gets me a dual-fuel 3400 watt Champion inverter generator.
For years, I know people are loyal to the red/blue, but the China stuff is catching up. I know I wouldn't spend $2200 on a 3000 watt generator again, which barely started my A/C, while half that would get me a 3400 watt generator that had more headroom, and could be run on propane before being stored, so bad gas doesn't kill the carb.
