Headlight conversion

Anyone have any ideas on why I have no high beams when changing from seal beams to halogen? All wiring and connections on lamps are clean and tight, connector on light stalk is tight. This is on 1996 FL60. lights switched fine with the sealed beams.

Thanks,

Jim
  • I have an inquiry to Summit, catalog said it was Hella, the box says Rampage ???

  • The only non-sealed lamps I am aware of are Hella and Cibe. When I swapped mine back in the 80's, long before anything American made, there was an adapter cable that came along with them. Been too long, I have no idea what the pin flip was
  • I suggest that you contact the company that makes the conversion kit that you bought for advice.
  • Single lamp each side, kit has housing that replaces sealed beam, H4 lamp, rubber cover for the original connector. Original connector and contact on H4 are the same, low beam works,

  • I'm not sure what you mean changing from sealed beams to halogen. I have halogen lamps that are sealed beam are yours a complete change out and just have the lens housing and plug the lamps into that?

I have two headlights on each side, a lowbeam lamp and a highbeam lamp, If I remember correctly they have the same contact configuration but different internal wiring so you don't have two highs or two lows on a side.

Testing the sockets by yourself is when a simple test light is great. Just hook it to the plug and lay it on the wipers and you can test from inside.
  • This was a LONG time ago and hopefully won't apply now but..........
I once changed types of bulbs only to find that the connections were different on the new one and had to move two wires to get them to work right.

A meter would be REALLY helpful in testing something like this.

I assume this happens on both sides ?
  • Look at the plug to the headlights. When I changed mine I had to trim off a little of the plugs plastic so it would seat closer and make contact with the terminals on the Halogen. The shape of the back of the bulb is a little different.
