Heater not warm enough

It's cold inside :(. I replaced my thermostat that had broken and now the heater starts. But....the burner is burning, and the blower is blowing, but it seems like it is not generating enough heat. The air coming from the vents is barely warm. At this rate, it won't keep me warm unless the outside temperature is above 60. Gas pressure seems ok since the stove works just fine. Any ideas? Is there an adjustment to increase the amount of gas feeding the burner?
thanks and Merry Christmas.

  • I'll be back at the farm in a day or two and I'll look at the orifice. The TT is a Jayco, 18 ft. Don't know about the furnace. I''ll post a follow-up as to what I find.
  • You have a problem. All three of my TTs had really hot air coming out of the vents.... It simply CANNOT be just warm, or the heat loss thru the windows and walls will never be overcome.
As has been mentioned, the orfice is a good place to look....After making SURE that there is adequate propane pressure to the heater.

This shouldn't be. I'd describe the air from ours as very warm if not hot. Check for ducting issues. Look at a manual (bryantrv.com is a good source). Post make and model here.

please be very careful around the furnace. It offers a perfect storm of fire, LPG leak, and exhaust infiltration. Get somebody to work on it if you have any reservations.
  • I had a similar problem. The issue was a dirty gas orifice. Pulled furnace out and disassembled. Cleaned the burner while it was out and removed the gas line from the control valve. Used some spray carburetor cleaner followed by compressed air. Great heat now.
  • Have you checked the burner to insure it is clean and not rusted out?
What is make and model of the furnace?
How big is your rig? Make and model in signature would help!
  • start looking for outside air geting in, the door gaskets leak alot and the cab doors al so at the bottom. we had this problem the gap at the bottom of the cab doors was about three quatrer inch. cut down on all air entering the rv.

YOu may need more furnace... The air from the ducts should ideally only be a little bit warmer than the air going into the furnace.. But check that too.. If the furnace is sucking outside air into the RV then two conditoins exist.

1: It will not be nearly as warm.

2: It can suck in products of combustion (Exhaust gasses)
  • Thanks for the quick replies. I checked vents and they are ok. Ran the heater >8 hrs and the inside was barely above freezing.
  • Check where the ducts come out of heater or where the heater connect to floor and look for air leaks
  • As long as the air coming from the vents is warmer than the air in your RV, it should warm up eventually. The air from the furnace in our coach doesn't feel overly hot either, but we stay toasty warm down to around 10 deg F anyway. From a cold start though, it takes awhile to get there, so give it time.
