I recently bought some tarps "Black Stallion" brand from the farm store... they're about 10x thicker than the so called heavy-duty blue/green ones you see around, and instead of wimpy eyelets, they have d-rings sewn through with box stitched nylon webbing.
They cost about 2x as much but seem to be several times the quality.
As far as everything being wet, once you get it covered, a few milkhouse type electric heaters will dry it all out so you can get back to work.
