If the converter is with the power centre and the converter up and died, you should still get 12v from the house batteries. Both battery and converter connect at the DC fuse panel, so that would be a starting point.
If the converter is a deck mount or if you have an inverter/charger away from the power centre, it could be wired to reach the DC fuse panel "across" the battery, so now first common point is the battery post and then the battery fuse near the positive post.
--another--The 12v and the 120v both share the rig's frame as the "ground" If the ground is lost the 120v will still work (uses hot and neutral) but the 12v won't. (uses positive and ground)
