Do you still have the regulator that came with the grill? You'll need that when connecting to the tank directly.
When you connected to the trailers system, you would have had to take off the grills regulator because you were already using the trailers system.
I've only been using individual tanks for my grill, stove, whatever and all I have is the hose and use the connection point on the appliance that you would connect a little 1 lb bottle to if you were using those, but they all have their own regulators on them..
