Small 12V compressor frigs are not too expensive. Around $600. There can be sales in unlikely places like West Marine - usually an expensive store.
Brands to check - Dometic (formerly Tundra and Waeco - Big D bought them all), Novacool (not Norcold, don't get confused), Vitrifrigo, Isotherm. Also - Engel, but those are usually more expensive than others.
120V under-counter frig from big box store will cost less, but won't be as energy efficient, especially considering inverter loss. Big 120V units can be fairly efficient - not all of them - and it's not a good solution for a small camper with solar and few batteries. In a motorhome or if you always camp with hookups or run a generator every day - yes, 120V will work.
