Climate, climate, climate...
When I lived in the Eastern Sierras, my freezer was a brand new plastic trash can outside the back door, from December to March. The refrigerator was the space on the floor next to the back door. Beat driving to Reno on icy roads to buy a refrigerator freezer. But down here in the tropics, the foot is on a different shoe.
Even my insulation clad VIKING refrigerator runs four hours (av 230 minutes) out of the day.
My "water Heater" uses less than 1 kWh a month. A differential of 10 degrees certainly helps :)
