To update the thread.....and to add some personal opinion for what I just experienced.
Trying to assess the reasons why I was seeing the odd voltage numbers I was with the WFCO converter, and excluding the overwhelming feedback from people expressing their distaste for WFCO converters, I felt it necessary to contact WFCO directly and see if they could shed some light for me.
So I called and talked to a couple different WFCO technicians, who were not only surprisingly helpful but also walked me through a couple basic test procedures to better understand what was happening and whether or not my money wasn't going to be wasted by replacing something potentially not broken. I thought that was fair.
After doing what WFCO instructed, I came to the conclusion that indeed their converter had an internal issue. OK, so now I I was positive that I had to order another converter. And after many members kindly pointing me towards Progressive Dynamics as the better product, I shopped around until I found a good deal from a reputable RV parts provider (that being PPL).
A few days later the converter is delivered but strangely its not in a Progressive Dynamics box. Rather its in a regular cardboard box with instructions and PD pamphlet. I raised a brow since I've seen pictures of PD converters in PD boxes but thought maybe I was just being too cautious. Well.....over the next couple days my better instincts had me call Progressive today and ask them personally if I should be concerned that their product showed up at my door like described. To my utter surprise I get on the phone with some employee who was TERRIBLY rude!!!!! Not only did she not seem to give a rats behind how their converter was delivered to me but then told me to call PPL and tell them my concerns. Totally confused by her snarky and unnecessary response for a completely legitimate issue, I said to her that I'm only being proactive by 1) informing PD that this may be an issue they're unaware of, and 2) I didn't want to pay PPL for a product which may be a refurbished, or worse, non-legit which would then affect warranty or performance.
Only because of my persistence did she eventually listen to me read off the serial code so I could be assured it was a new unit, did we part ways. CRAZY! I was so shocked that I called back to talk to a manager and help let PD know that they have a very unhappy employee working in their service / warranty dept. Thats when another woman answers the phone whereby I asked if there was a manager I could maybe talk to. Crazy as it sounds I was presented by her TERRIBLY rude response to my question NOT with a "let me get someone fro you, or how can I help but rather"....."a manager for what?" At that point I said, you're not a very large company are you? She responded with a "no" and then I simply hung up knowing that there was no point in addressing this any further. Needless to say, that's my experience with Progressive Dynamics customer service.
All that said, this new PD converter better work fabulous because I get the feeling that trying to deal with them with a potential warranty problem with PD will probably be like pulling teeth from an angry chicken. At that point I'd just have to decide whether or not I'd invest any money in their less than professional attitude again or simply choose another company.
On a side note, I'm still totally impressed with WFCO's very kind and helpful customer service who went over and beyond to help answer my inquiries. Even if they're products fail more than others..... Or maybe all the fuss you read on these forums is simply because WFCO supplies around 80% of the RV industry which would obviously give reason why there are so many people talking about WFCO problems specifically over that of all other companies. Just something to think about and I'm sure I'll be bashed for my opinions.....
