One thing the idea of the slightly lower set points would get you is more headroom before inverter cutout in cooler weather. But yes you miss out on the faster charging of the higher voltage that way. It does seem like your idea of a pretty high low temp cut out of compensation is a good one.

I Think I do need some head room. It seems to hum along ok at 14.6V but if I have a load on the inverter that I take off, it spikes and trips. The controller doesn't react fast enough.
