Sorry for the delay in responding.
I have been working on a bunch of other items on the 5th wheel. Wow you buy a brand new rig and there is a ton of work!
I finally went back and had another try at the cover yesterday. I fiddled with it and finally slid it all the way off. I knew that the part closest to the edge that didn't go all the way in had small slide tabs. I just kept trying to get everything to line up and discovered that pressure had to be applied on both sides to get the slide tabs to fully line up. Someone with three hands could do it very easily! Once I got those tabs fully engaged in the channel it lined up and closed completely. It seems that the tabs could start half way down the channel but the last half of the tab was below the channel and that what was preventing it from closing all the way. Once the tabs were completely in the channel no problem.
