I feel ur pain brodda..... I'm hyper-sensitive to sound and smell; always the 1st to pick up one or the other. It's a curse..
If its really a hiss, it's likely coming from the transformer in the switching supply, and the only thing you can do is to attempt to acoustically isolate it. It sounds like its high enough in frequency that open cell foam might squelch it a bit, but the trick is installing it where it will do some good but still not block cooling of the unit.
Option #2 is acoustical fiberglass panel board. This stuff comes in various thicknesses and is used as sound deadening and isolation in stages, and it's obviously not highly combustible. You might want to look around on the web for some of this material and see if you can get some samples sent out since that about all you need.
