Hmmm. Lightweight AGM Battery For CPAP?

Just musing possibilities. Can't have everything - light weight, amp hours, thick plates and low price.

But the 'lil sister versions of this critter may be interesting as an overnight CPAP power source that can be configured to recharge from a cigarette lighter socket with a running rig engine...would need a good handle and 12 volt connector and fuse to the machine.

50 watts is what my unit draws when the humidifier heater is going full song - but unless it's Freeze The Cajones Off A Copper And Zinc Primate weather, the humidifier works a small percentage of the time.

Better 'n a kick in the butt with a sharp stick...

  • Lightweight + Lead Acid = Low Capacity.

A GOOD 4 serial, 2 parallel Li-Ion battery pack should give you about 7.0 Ah (using 3500 mAh cells), but that is only 2 hours at best.

You will need a PROPER Li-Ion charger !
  • I mostly see sealed lead acid batteries at the battery outlet. I guess a motorcycle Grp battery is fairly common AGM. I have a few small AGM's, 40AH and less. They were made by Deka-Penn, The Pure Lead Enersys brand. They were bought used but are holding their own in the last five years. I'd estimate a 30 AH AGM weighs in just shy of 20 lbs.

There are some special devices called "Jump Start" batteries solid in many Auto stores and departments... These are usually AGM batteries in the 25 AH Range

Also Wal*Mart carries some small AGM's just the battery, no supporting electronics or "Box" light weight... ALso used in UPS power supplies.

So yes, there are "light weight" AGM's out there... But most of the batteries I just described are "Starting" may not be the best choice.
  • sounds like marketing hoo-haa to me. What's wrong with a 20AH "ups" type battery? They're inexpensive because of mass production, they enjoy continuous standby charging and the occasional high-rate drain.
